American
Women in Radio and Television Celebrates
50 Years of Promoting Progress and Creating Change
“Making Waves: The 50 Greatest Women in Radio and Television”
Book Launch to be held October 25th in New York City
(Vienna, VA July 30, 2001) – 2001 marks the 50th Anniversary
and a golden highlight for American Women in Radio and Television
(AWRT). The celebration will peak with the publication of
“Making Waves: The 50 Greatest Women in Radio and Television,”
a never-before-published look at the most outstanding women
trailblazers taking radio and television from it’s infancy
to the happy birthday granddaughter images. A celebrity book launch luncheon will
take place on Thursday, October 25th at New York City’s Tavern
on the Green.
The remarkable women featured in this historical book range
from Eleanor Roosevelt to Barbara Walters. Making Waves offers
intimate portraits of these 50 dynamic women, including an
inspiring essay in which each woman recalls a defining moment
in her career, as well as more than 150 personal photos. The
combined effect creates an unprecedented look at these phenomenal
women, which documents and showcases their tremendous accomplishments
and contributions to this industry.
According to Nancy J. Logan, AWRT National President, “AWRT’s
is pleased to honor many of the remarkable women who have
shaped our past, present and our future in this industry –
women who have forged a new media frontier and opened the
doors to advancement. We take great pride in AWRT’s role in
serving as a collective voice, advancing the impact of women
in electronic media.”
AWRT’s 50th Anniversary Celebration Luncheon and book launch
will feature many of the honorees included in the book, which
will enthrall the audience as they read passages from their
essays. Scheduled for release by Andrews McMeel to bookstores
in September 2001, all royalties will go directly to benefit
AWRT in order to further the organization’s mission of advancing
the impact of women in radio and television through educating,
advocating and acting as a resource to the industry and to
AWRT members.
